DB3 functions as a trigger diode that has a reference voltage fixed it could be used with triacs to simplify gate control circuits, or as a base element in ballasts for fluorescent lamps. The SOT23-3L package on the surface permits the use of compact, SMD-based designs for automated manufacturing.
